The volcanic, balsalt stones used for a stone massage are emersed in a hot water bath to warm, before being applied to the body. They are chosen for their heat retaining properties and come in various shapes and sizes, according to the job they do and the part of the
body they will be used for.
The warm stones are then applied to the body with warm scented Jojoba oil.
This type of hot stone therapeutic treatment is thought to have originated in China almost 2,000 years ago. Since then, the technique of utilising warm stones for healing has been observed in many different cultures, including the Americas, Africa, Egypt, and India.
Many people find the warmth of the hot stones to be comforting. Hot stone massage is suited to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet. I use the stones in my hand and massage with them. This allows the me to get deeper into the muscles without using more pressure, helping clients to relax.
